American Airlines Minor Rules

Your child could be qualified for the minor criteria without a parent service on specific routes based on age. Your child needs to be at least 8 years old to travel on connecting routes that connect specific airports. If not, you can either fly nonstop flights or direct flights.

Note: Kids flying solo aged 2-14 years old may be considered an ‘accompanied minor’ with someone aged 16 years or more.

American Airlines Minor Policy - Other Restrictions

American Airlines won't accept unaccompanied minors if their itinerary includes the following:

• An airline connection, including codeshares as well as one-world partners
• Connections to co-terminals and ground networks (unaccompanied minors younger than 15 years old cannot travel on ground transport by themselves)
• The final flight of the day, departing from the city of final connection (unless it's the sole scheduled flight available)
• Connecting flights that are overnight are not permitted unless the flight is the sole scheduled flight that is offered.
